CHILDREN'S AUTHOR
Onomatopoeia and other Literary Devices School Visit
Explore onomatopoeia, alliteration, repetition with a creative writing activity
Years 1 - 3
Focus text: any combination of my books based on your school/class preference
Learning outcomes: Onomatopoeia and other literary devices; understanding three elements of a good story
I love onomatopoeia (I'm an onomatopoeia nerd!) and I love sharing my passion for onomatopoeia with children in a way that is fun and meaningful - hopefully they'll end up loving onomatopoeia as much as me!
In the workshop I will:
-
Introduce onomatopoeia, alliteration, repetition and other literary devices
-
Explore every day onomatopoeia, made up sounds and cross linguistic (around the world) onomatopoeia
-
Interactive story time - children join in reading the story with me
-
Guide students to create their own character, story setting and problem using literary devices
-
Provide a behind the scenes peak into the creation of my books – from initial idea, first draft, early illustrations to final book
-
Question and answer session.

Testimonial
"Catherine had our P-2 students completely enthralled in each of her sessions. Her presentations left our students buzzing about the joy of reading, exploring literary devices and music. Catherine’s visit raised the profile of reading in our school, making story writing more real and inspiring future authors. Overall, we had an amazing day - great fun and good value."
