Creative Writing Primary School Visits

I love running creative writing sessions for primary school and high school students.

As well as being a children’s author I studied English at the Australian National University.

I love to help even the most reluctant writer to come up with an idea for their story and I ensure there is time to work one on one with every student in the class.

Three act structure guided creative writing workshop

Year 1 -Year 6

Learning outcomes: three act structure, literary devices, 'show don't tell' and visual literacy

This is a guided creative writing workshop where children will write their own story. In the workshop I will explore the three-act structure for creative writing.

I will work with the children to come up with their own story including:

  • Character

  • Setting

  • Problem

  • Trying to solve the problem

  • Resolution

  • Different types of endings

  • Using literary devices to make their story shine

  • Using the 'show don't tell' technique

  • The importance of visual literacy and leaving room for illustrations.

I provide worksheets for year 1 - 3 and worksheets for year 4-6.

I will also share where my ideas come from and behind the scenes peaks into the creation of books – from initial idea to first draft to early illustrations to the final book.
